Projectors in schools are often out of warranty (any installed during the BECTA whiteboard expansion programme and most installed before May 2006)
Out of warranty repairs are expensive! If a projector breaks down and is out of warranty it needs to be removed from its bracket, packaged safely and returned to the manufacturer. Once assessed, repaired, returned and re-installed the cost can be around £300 to a school.
Many schools have not maintained their Projectors correctly and they are often displaying a very poor image.
This can manifest itself as purple spots or poor colour re-production and is generally as a result of dust in the optics of the projector.
Due to the high cost of replacement lamps (many cost £250-£300) schools often let the lamps run over the recommended lamp life (and even when the warning is displayed on screen!).
The projected image is often very dim and often only visible when the blinds are closed or lights turned off.
If lamps are used over the recommended life they can explode in the projector.
Replacement Projectors need to have the De-installation and Re-installation cost included (as well as new brackets and cables) as the throw distance (the distance from the projector to the required screen size) differs from the old model to the new model.
This can make a replacement projector cost soar from £400-£500 to over £1000.
But of course budgets are tight and most schools have not planned a refreshment programme for this equipment.
We can show you a way of changing all or some of your projectors, giving them a long warranty on the projector and lamp and we can come in regularly to maintain them and we could still save you money!!

As a small Primary School we are proud of the fact that we are able to have Projectors and Whiteboards in each of our classrooms, but we have been concerned at the image quality and the cost of replacement Lamps for our original projectors.
After Elementary Technology audited our existing systems, it became clear that we had to budget for replacing lamps and projectors and new installation works as our projectors were out of warranty.
However we are delighted that Elementary Technology's innovative approach to this problem has resulted in replacing all of the projectors (which the staff are delighted with) and including a preventative maintenance programme so that they are properly "deep cleaned" twice a year.
